본 연구는 상품생산과 상품유통으로 특징지어지는 특수한 사회적 관계의 산물인 동시에주체와의 필연적인 연관 관계 속에서 작동하는 독특한 ‘사회적 객체’인 화폐의 사회적본성과 그 문화적, 정치적 함의를 탐구한다. 기존의 화폐론들은 화폐를 교환을 용이하게하는 중립적인 기술적 수단으로 간주하거나 상호주관적인 신뢰와 믿음을 통해 사회적으로기능하는 제도적 실재라는 관점에서 화폐의 본성을 규정해왔다. 이러한 접근들은 화폐가상품생산 사회에서 경제적 생산관계를 매개하는 필수적인 사물인 동시에 일반적인 욕망의대상이라는 점을 간과한다. 이에 본 연구는 화폐와 욕망의 내재적 관계를 분석하는 한편사물의 인격화와 인간적 관계의 사물화로 특징지어지는 물신주의의 관점에서 화폐의 사회적 본성을 탐구한다. 이를 통해 화폐가 물신화된 욕망을 생산하며, 사회적 신뢰와 믿음이아니라 내재적인 적대와 모순을 통해 지배적인 힘으로 작동한다는 점을 강조한다.
Abstract
Previous monetary theories have defined the nature of money either as a technological means that facilitates exchange or as an institutional reality functioning through intersubjective trust and belief. They overlook the point that money is both an necessary medium for economic relations and an object of general desire in a commodity producing society. Contrary to this, we identify money as a unique social object that operates in the inevitable relationship with the subject and analyze the intrinsic relationship between money and desire following Marx s insights on fetishism. Through this, we will emphasize that money operates as an objective force that dominates the subject through endogenous alienation and contradiction rather than social trust and belief.
