수안보면 미륵리 안내판의 영어번역 오류 분석

수안보면 미륵리에는 보물 제 95호 미륵리 5층 석탑과 보물 제 96호 미륵리 석불 입상이 있는데, 모두 충주시에서 관리하고 있는 문화유산으로서 문화적으로 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있다. 이들의 안내판에는 어휘의 오류에서부터 의미파악의 오류 및 문법적인 오류까지 다양한 오류가 발견되었다. 본 논문에서는 문화적 요소를 지닌 어휘의 번역에 관하여 논의를 간략하게 하고, 두 문화재의 영문안내판에 나타난 번역상의 여러 가지 오류에 중점을 두고 검토해 본다. 영문번역판 전문에 나타난 오류는 TT의 번역자가 실력이 부족한 상태에서 번역을 하였거나 성실하지 못한 번역을 하였기 때문으로 추측된다. 또는 ST의 의미를 제대로 파악하지 못한 상태에서 번역한 것으로 보이기도 한다. 또한, 어휘적 오류뿐만 아니라 문법적인 오류도 볼 수가 있는데, 잘못된 시제의 사용은 물론 단순한 철자의 오류 등 여러 가지 다양한 오류들이 발견되었다. 관광 안내판은 그 문화재에 대한 홍보에 그치지 않고 국가를 홍보하며, 나라의 품격을 대변한다. 이러한 점에서 영어 안내판의 번역에는 배전의 노력이 필요하다. 따라서, 우리의 소중한 문화재를 올바로 알리는 영문안내판에 오류가 없도록 번역전문가의 양성 등 여러 가지 다양한 방법이 강구되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
There are two treasures in Mireukri, Suanbo. Both treasures are very important cultural heritages managed by Chungju city. One is Five-story Stone Stupa in Mireukri and the other is Stone Buddha’s Statue in Mireukri. The former was nominated as treasure number 95, and the latter as treasure number 96 in 1963. In this paper, the translation of the vocabularies which contain cultural elements is discussed somewhat shortly, and the errors in the two information boards are examined, focusing on the vocabulary errors. In the two information boards, there are too many errors of vocabularies. In examining the full text of the information boards, the failure for the translator of the information boards to understand contents of the source text is found. That failure not only brings unfit vocabularies to the target text but makes the target text difficult to understand. There are also many grammatical errors. The grammatical errors are diverse from the simple misspelling to ungrammatical sentences as well as wrong tenses. There should be taken some methods to make the translation of the information boards free from errors.
