초록

Bok-Jin Yoon, a representative of children’s verse poets during the period of Japanese Imperialism, went to North Korea during the Korean War in 1950; hence, he was gradually forgotten in South Korea. After lifting the literary ban on writers who went to North Korea, a collection of children’s verses by Bin-Jin Yoon that was published before his going to North Korea was republished. This generated interest in his work leading to several theses on his works also being published. However, because information of his life and works is difficult to find, his activities in North Korea have not been studied thoroughly. He continuously wrote until his death in 1991 and was awarded many prizes in North Korea. He has been praised by scholars from both South Korea and North Korea; however, the subjects of his praised works are not same in South Korea as in North Korea. This article reviews data about his life and work in North Korea and provides a comprehensive analysis of his life and works including the periods prior to and after his departure to North Korea. Therefore, we can advance the study of Bok-Jin Yoon more and can closely examine the different viewpoints of South and North Korean juvenile literature. Because Bok-Jin Yoon sang innocent children world during the period of Japanese Imperialism, his children’s verse that praised the North Korean system was enough to call as ‘reverse turn’. However, we’d like to pay attention to ‘Christianity’ and ‘Getting out of Country Bumpkin as the facts which provided continuity to his life and works from the periods of Japanese Imperialism to the period after going to North Korea. This hidden factor that is located inside of him proceeded to ‘Worship for Il-Seong Kim’ and ‘praise for modernization’. The North Korean government praised highly his activities in North Korea. However, his best was not the work collection of 1984 but the work collection of 1948.
