영미 동시 텍스트의 최근 경향과 시각화 양상 연구

본 연구는 영미 아동 문학에서 영미 동시의 위상과 최근 경향에 대한 탐구를 기반으로 텍스트의 시각화 양상을 살펴보았다. 영미 동시 텍스트는 동시의 장르적 경계에 대한 모호함으로 인해 아동 문학에서 활발히 생산되거나 주목받지 못하였다. 그러나 근대 사회로 접어들면서 ‘아동’개념이 생겨나고 아동의 욕구나 욕망에 부합하는 시 형태에 대한 고민이 가속되면서, 최근 영미 아동 문학계에서 동시 텍스트는 활발하게 논의되고 풍부하게 창작되고 있다. 특히 참신한 동시인과 동시 작품을 발굴하여 시상하는 전통은 이러한 상황의 밑거름이 되었다. 동시 텍스트의 시각화 현상도 최근 영미 동시단에서 주목받고 있는 변화 중의 하나이다. 이러한 변화 양상을 고찰하기 위해 닥터 수스(Dr. Susess)와 조이스 시드먼(Joice Sidmen), 캐런 윌리스(Karen Wallace)의 작품을 살펴보았다. 또한 『이상한 나라의 앨리스(Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, 1865)』에 삽입된 「쥐 이야기(mouse’s tale)」와 쉘 실버스타인(Shel Silverstein)의 구체시(concrete poem)를 검토하여 글과 그림이 시 텍스트에서 어떻게 구조화되고 있는지 살펴보았다. 시각화된 동시 텍스트에서 그림이 사라지거나 구체적인 형태로 활자들이 배열되지 않을 때 그 의미는 불완전해 진다. 이것은 원텍스트에 삽화 형식으로 그림을 덧붙이는 방식에서 삽화가 없다고 할지라도 시 텍스트의 의미가 불완전하거나 손상되지 않는 것과 상반된다. 따라서 복합 양식화된 시 텍스트에서 글과 그림은 서로 융합(fusion)적 성격을 가진다. 글은 그림에 의해 견인되고 그림은 글에 의해 그 명확한 초점이 주어진다고 할 수 있으며, 글과 그림은 서로에게 생명을 불어 넣어주는 관계에 있다고 말할 수 있다. 동시 텍스트의 시각화 특성은 한국적 차원에서 조탁하여 새로운 장르로의 모색을 위한 디딤돌이 될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.
Abstract
This study is explored the British and American poetry for children in current issue and recent trends based visualization aspects. The British and American poetry for children were not focused in literature field due to ambiguity about the boundaries of the genre simultaneous and not to be unnoticed. However, entering into a modern society, the concept of ‘children’ has been springing up to meet the child's needs and desires in the form of concerns about acceleration, as British and American children's literary field in the recent abundantly being discussed. In particular, poets and works excavated insults from basis of this situation. Simultaneous visualization of phenomena of the British and American poetry for children is one of the recent changes in attention. Primarily I examined the poetry picture books of the major works of Dr. Seuss, Joyce Sidmen, Karen Wallace, Shell Silverstein and Lewis Carroll on how words and pictures are being examined. If the pictures are disappeared from letters a specific form of poem is incomplete. It is not same as illustration with letters on a way to add a picture. Therefore fusion of lyrics and pictures have specialized integration for interpretive semantics. This study could be a stepping stone for exploring a new genre to poetry for Korean children to extend visualization of the text.
