『별을 헤아리며』와 『내 이름이 교코였을 때』는 제2차 세계대전을 통해 덴마크와 한국에서 실제 발생한 역사적 배경과 사건을 재현한다. 소설은 가족의 사랑과 친구와의 우정, 자유와 생명의 존엄성, 그리고 일상의 가치를 다룬다. 두 소설은 아동의 성장소설이며 사회소설, 그리고 역사 소설이다. 역사 문화적 맥락 안에서 주인공들은 건강한 자아정체성 확립과 건전한 인성 발달을 통해 성장하고 성숙해 간다. 개인이 자유의지를 통해 사회 안에서 행동의 자유를 선택하지만 결국 개인은 사회구조 및 문화와 밀접한 관계 안에 놓여 있음을 알 수 있다. 동시대의 역사적 사실을 다루고 있는 두 작품의 시대적 배경과 사건, 실존 인물, 상징 등에 대해서 살펴보았다. 역사는 사실을 제시하는데 작가는 사실을 허구로 바꾸기 위해서 상상력과 사실을 결합하며 긴장감 넘치는 줄거리와 주인공의 활약을 통해 아동 독자들에게 교훈적이며 교육적 가치들을 제시한다. 아동 독자들은 어른들의 탐욕과 야심으로 얼룩진 전쟁이라는 이해할 수 없는 세계에 대한 역사 재현을 통해 과거의 어두운 면을 이해하고 재평가한다. 그러므로, 산업사회를 살아갈 아동들은 미래 시민으로서 도덕적·윤리적 가치를 이해한다.역사적 사실을 다루는 역사적 사실주의 소설을 통해 올바른 역사관으로 도덕적·윤리적 지식을 배우는 교육적 가치에 대해 살펴보았다.
Abstract
Number the Stars and When My Name was Keoko represent historical backgrounds and events that really occurred in Denmark and Korea during World War II. They are classified as children's growth novels, social novels, and historical novels. Both novels equally explore themes of family love, friendship, the dignity of freedom and life, and the value of everyday life. Both novels are coming-of-age stories, social novels, and historical novels. Within the historical and cultural context, The main characters undergo personal growth and maturity through the establishment of both a healthy sense of identity and the development of sound character. While individuals have the freedom to make choices and actions within society, they are ultimately influenced by social structures and culture. The two works, which deal with contemporary historical facts, are examined in terms of their historical background, events, real-life figures, and symbols. History presents facts, and the authors combine imagination and reality to transform facts into fiction, presenting children readers with engaging plots and the heroic actions of the protagonists, conveying moral and educational values. Through the historical reenactment of a world stained by the greed and ambition of adults in an incomprehensible war, child readers come to understand and reevaluate the dark aspects of the past. Therefore, children growing up in industrialized societies grasp moral and ethical values as future citizens. The educational value of learning moral and ethical knowledge through historically accurate novels is explored in terms of promoting a proper understanding of history.
