본 연구에서는 형제 갈등을 묘사하고 있는 동화 중 『카인과 아벨』을 중심으로, 형제 갈등의 원인을 선과 악과 같이 피상적으로 대비되는 극단적 인격으로 제시하는 것이 아니라, 형제간에 시기심과 질투심을 나타내는 카인 컴플렉스(Cain complex)라는 심리 현상에 집중하여 고찰해 보았다. 형제, 자매간 무의식적으로 적대감과 경쟁심을 품는 인물들의 심층적인 의식을 이해해 보고, 권선징악이라는 교훈적 차원을 넘어 등장인물이 보이는 행동의 심리적 원인을 추적해 보았다. 카인 컴플렉스의 원인은 상실감과 상대적 박탈감에서 비롯한 불안과 공포라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 심리상태에서 형제는 부모의 사랑을 놓고 경쟁 관계에 놓이게 되고, 이로 인해 필연적인 갈등이 발생하게 된다. 또한 카인의 적대감은 자신 안에 깊이 뿌리내린 열등감에서 비롯된 것으로 볼 수도 있다. 형제자매 갈등의 해결은 갈등 해결 과정의 긍정적인 영향을 통해 보다 바람직한 사회구성원으로 성장하는데 기여할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 카인 콤플렉스를 묘사한 동화의 예들을 통해, 표면적 행동의 심리적 근원을 찾고 그 과정을 통해 등장인물이 직면하고 행동해 나가는 문제의 본질과 해결 과정을 고찰해 보았다. 이러한 동화를 통해 카인 콤플렉스와 같은 심리 현상으로 나타나는 행동유형을 교육적으로 어떻게 이끌어 나갈 수 있는지를 고려해 보는 것도 필요하리라 본다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is not to place the cause of sibling conflict embodied in fairy tales in the superficial contrast between good and evil, but to focus on the psychological phenomenon known as the 'Cain complex', which manifests as feelings of envy and jealousy between siblings. To explore this, this study focused on the depiction of sibling conflict in Cain and Abel and compared it with other fairy tales, including Joseph and the Twelve Brothers to examine the aspects and solutions of sibling conflict. This study sought to understand the deep-rooted consciousness of characters who harbor unconscious hostility and competition toward their siblings. The cause of the Cain Complex can be attributed to anxiety and fear stemming from a sense of loss and relative deprivation. In this psychological state, siblings find themselves in a competitive relationship for parental love, resulting in inevitable conflicts. In Cain and Abel, Cain's hostility can also be seen as originating from an unconscious sense of inferiority deeply rooted within him. Resolving sibling conflicts can contribute to the development of more desirable members of society through the positive influence of conflict resolution processes.
