이 연구는 다문화 학습 집단을 대상으로 AI 실시간 자막 번역 시스템(DocZoom Live Caption)을 한국 문화 수업에 적용하여 그 교육적 활용가능성을 탐색한 사례 연구이다. 연구의 목적은 외국인 학습자가 한국어로 진행되는 강의를 이해하는 과정에서 겪는 언어적 장벽을 완화하고, AI 번역 시스템이 학습자의 이해도, 참여도, 흥미도에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 데 있다. 연구 대상은 한국 대학에서 한국 문화 교과목을 수강한 외국인 학습자 로, 국적은 중국, 우즈베키스탄, 멕시코 등으로 구성되었다. 분석 결과, DocZoom 시스템은 학습자들의 수업 이해(평균 4.73점) 에 긍정적인 효과를 보였다. 특히 복잡한 문화 개념 이해, 강의 흐름 파악, 지식 습득 등에 실질적 도움이 되었으며, 92% 이상의 학습자가 향후 지속적으로 사용할 의사를 밝혔다. 그러나 번역 속도 지연, 정확도 불안정, 시각적 불편등의 한계도 있었다. 이 연구는 DocZoom 시스템이 외국인 학습자의 언어 부담을 줄이고, 포용적 학습 환경을 조성할 수 있는 교육적 도구로서의 가능성을 확인했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 향후 연구에서는 다양한 언어 배경과 전공의 학습자를 대상으로 한 장기적 효과 분석이 필요하다.
Abstract
This study is a case-based exploration of the educational potential of applying an AI real-time caption translation system (DocZoom Live Caption) in a Korean culture course for multicultural learners. The aim is to reduce the linguistic barriers faced by foreign students in understanding lectures conducted in Korean and to analyze how the AI translation system affects their comprehension, participation, and interest. The participants were foreign students enrolled in a Korean culture course at a Korean university, representing nationalities such as China, Uzbekistan, and Mexico. The analysis revealed that the DocZoom system had a positive effect on students’ understanding of the lecture (average score: 4.73). It was particularly effective in helping learners grasp complex cultural concepts, follow lecture flow, and acquire knowledge, with over 92% of students expressing their intention to continue using the system. However, some limitations were identified, including delays in translation speed, instability in accuracy, and visual discomfort. This study demonstrates that the DocZoom system can serve as an educational tool that reduces foreign learners’ linguistic burden and fosters an inclusive learning environment. Future research should include a broader range of learners with diverse language backgrounds and majors to examine the long-term effects of AI translation in multicultural educational contexts.
