본 논문은 일본의 패전 직후 본격화된 전쟁책임 논의 속에서 전시 중에 전쟁 협력을 했던 문학자가 전시 중의 자신의 삶을 돌아보는 것의 의미를 생각해보기 위한 것으로,요코미쓰 리이치(横光利一,1898~1947)의 소설 밤의 구두(夜の靴) 를 통해 이를 살펴보았다. 요코미쓰 리이치는 전후 전시 중에 자신이 협력했던 책임문제에 대해 직시하는 태도를 보이지 않았다.“생각한 모두를 잘못이라고 생각해야하는 괴로움으로부터는 아직 쉽게 빠져나갈 수 없다”고 토로하는 ‘나’의 모습을 통해,전중에 자신이 생각했던 것을 전후가 되어 부정해야하는 작자 요코미쓰 리이치의괴로움을 읽어낼 수는 있다.패전 이후 어떻게든 문학자로서 재기하고자 하는‘나’의 의지적인 측면도 보이면서,동시에 쉽사리 극복하지 못하는 당혹감을보이는 측면도 같이 표현되는 것 또한 ‘일기’라는 형식이 가져다준 효과일 것이다. 그러나 요코미쓰는 결국 전중의 자신을 부정하지 않는다.오히려 패전 직후의 시간을 태평양전쟁 개전일로 전도시키며 민족공동체로서의 ‘일본’을 그려내려고 했다.바깥에서 흘러들어온 ‘패전’과 이를 다시 역으로 전도시키려는 ‘나’의 분투의 기록,이것이 바로 밤의 구두 이고,이러한 내용들이 ‘일기’라는 형식 속에서 효과적으로 기능하고 있다고 볼 수 있다.요코미쓰의 이러한 모습은‘패전’이 되었다고는 하나 결코 단절되지 않고 전중을 이어가고 있는,혹은 전중으로 전도시키는 일본 전후의 일단을 보여주는 것이기도 하다.
Abstract
This study is to consider the meaning that Japanese novelist who actively supported Pacific War recalls wartimes after the war. Night Shoes by Yokomitsu Riichi(1898~1947) shows this case well. After the war, Yokomitsu Riichi did not face the matters squarely which he actively supported during wartimes. He expressed his painful feelings that he had to deny his behaviors himself under the discussions over the novelists’responsibility of the war. In his defeat diary Night Shoes, we can see two confused aspects. That is to say, one is the will to make a comeback as a novelist, and the other is the embarrassment not to overcome the shock of defeat. These entangled his thoughts expressed well through the diary style of this novel. However, he did not deny his behavior of wartimes. All the more, he inverted the after wartime into war years. Time of novel which was engraved in the diary style of this novel functioned effectively. Yokomitsu decided to write ‘rice’, which means the fate of community ‘Japan’. Night Shoes is the record of Yokomitsu Riichi’s struggle to invert the defeat. Of course, this struggle steers both directions of his comeback as a novelist and Japanese restoration from defeat. This Yokomitsu’ problem reveals that the post-war Japan has kept the thought of wartime nevertheless the defeat of war.
