초록
This study conducts a systematic review of 46 academic studies published between 2010 and 2025 to synthesize the current state of temple-stay tourism research in South Korea. The synthesis identifies five thematic domains: (1) motivational drivers and transformative experiences, (2) wellbeing and psychological outcomes, (3) cultural engagement and identity negotiation, (4) satisfaction determinants and service quality, and (5) sustainability and policy perspectives. Collectively, these studies show that temple-stay functions as a hybrid cultural–wellness practice that enables stress recovery, heritage engagement, identity work, and intercultural understanding. By consolidating fragmented findings into an integrative framework, this review advances theoretical understanding of spiritual, wellness, and heritage tourism embedded in temple-stay in Korea. It also outlines future research directions, emphasizing the need for longitudinal designs, cross-cultural comparisons, and investigation of emerging digital participation formats in temple-stay experiences.
