In many post-war Korean novels, in order to better describe the characters and their innermost consciousness in the brutal environment, a number of young novelists selected western literary techniques of stream of consciousness rather than the traditional narrative mode. By analyzing the representative works of several famous novelists such as Jang Yonghak, Kim Sunghan and Oh Sangwon -- “John Poetry,” “March in the Dark Night” and “Hesitation” respectively, this article probes into the characteristics of how these authors adopt the literary techniques of stream of consciousness, and points out the impact of their pioneering experiment on the development of Korean modern novels.
