초록
Literature during the 1900’s depicts the Japanese conquest of the Korean peninsula. It was then that they published the journal Chosun(1908.3∼1911.12) both in Japanese in Korean language. The writings portray criticisms on Korean ways of living which generated the concept of Chosun. Throughout the analysis of the literary column, the Japanese’ ambiguous attitudes prove to surface. They imply themselves coming from a highly regarded civilization from which Koreans were expected to be subjects of. However, their inferiority towards their own kind was ironically evident. The concept of Chosun represented in these narratives is a separate one from the political concept attributed to Korea, as it is summoned keeping close distance from the succession of Japan. It is also rather recognized at various levels, generating tensions with the Koreans. Finally, Chosun’s literary column is highly indispensible for any study that requires a point of reference during the 1900’s and the great divide between the Japanese and Koreans.
