Abstract

Ayurveda is widely known as the traditional medicine of India. However, other traditional medicines such as Siddha, Unani and Sowarigpa etc. have coexisted. The Indian government has integrated these various traditional medicines and named them AYUSH, and has been promoting various policies through the Ministry of Ayush since 2014. The modernization and globalization of Indian traditional medicine are actively progressing through the Ayush policy, which is a notable change in the history of traditional medicine in India. However, the globalization of traditional medicine will not be successful without modern specialization. Chapter II of this paper introduces the concept of Ayush and the Ministry of Ayush, and chapters III and IV summarize the Ayush policy as a whole. This study of Ayush policy was based on the policy data and annual report published on the official website of the Ministry of Ayush. Policies were analyzed by dividing them into the economic industry, research and development, health care, and cultural education. The Indian government researches and develops various traditional medicines through various policies of Ayush provides medical services to its citizens through medical health policy(Ayushman Bharat) and encourages active overseas publicity and cooperative research. These policies are promoting the modern globalization of Indian traditional medicine. However, in Chapter V, I critically considered the element of Hindutva in the Ayush policy to evaluate whether the task of modern globalization that the Ayush policy should aim for is being successfully progressed. To achieve successful globalization, pharmaceuticalization and standardization must first be achieved through thorough scientific verification of traditional medicines. And the activities of experts nurtured through systematic education based on this will become the basis of globalization. However, fundamental reflection on Hinduization and Hindutva, which determines the direction and quality of all these policies, seems to be the most essential.
