Abstract

This paper is written with the aim of examining the Neo-Confucianism of Kubong Song Ik-pil, who considered and discussed academic and political issues together as close friends with Woogye Sung-hon and Yulgok Yi I. Until now, research on Kubong’s Writings in the field of philosophy has been conducted focusing on the Great Ultimate theory, the theory of principle and matter, the theory of four sprouts and seven emotions, the theory of physiological and moral mind, and the theory of cultivation. Various discussions were held, such as whether to view the expression of principle and matter as a common or a single expression, and how to understand Kubong's theory of criticizing Yulgok's physiological and moral mind being the end and the beginning of each other, and whether it is good to understand his cultivation theory as a straightforward idea. As a result, it can be seen that his understanding of Neo-Confucianism is proceeding in an integrated way of thinking. Here, the integrated method can be expressed as the concept of a combination. These are the unity of principle and matter, the school of division seven emotions, and the collection of physiological and moral mind’ rise and fall theory, and his cultivation theory can be said to be a still and awake mind cultivation.
