이 글에서는 듀이의 경험 이론이 문학교육에 어떤 뜻과 도움을 줄 수 있는지 살펴보고, 듀이의 경험 이론이 문학교육과 어떤 관련이 있는지 짚어보았다. 그리고 학생들의 경험을 성장시키려면 문학교육이 어떤 방향으로 나아가야 할지 논의해 보았다. 문학 작품 읽기가 자신의 경험을 넓히고 깊게 하는 데 도움이 된다면 문학교육도 경험을 자라고 키울 수 있는 쪽으로 나아가야 한다. 첫째, 문학 교육과정을 심리적으로 조직해야 한다. 둘째, 다루는 작품이나 제재의 폭을 넓혀야 한다. 셋째, 작품에 대한 읽는 이의 다양한 해석과 반응을 허용해 주어야 한다. 넷째, 학생들이 작품을 지어보는 활동도 해 볼 수 있게 해야 한다.
Abstract
This article examines the meaning of Dewey's theory of experience and its significance and relationship to literature education. It also explores the direction that literature education should take to develop students' experiences. If reading literary works broadens and deepens one's experiences, then literary education should also be able to grow and nurture experiences. First, the literature curriculum must be organized psychologically. Second, the scope of the work and materials covered must be broadened. Third, this study should accommodate diverse interpretations and reactions from readers. Finally, students must be allowed to engage in activities that involve creating their own work.
