Abstract
Oocyte maturation is known to be one of the most important steps for in vitro fertilization and artificial insemination. The process of maturation depends on the function of reproductive hormones but is not known on cytosolic response in details. In this study, we identified nitric oxide (NO) increasement during oocyte maturation. The increasement of NO was measured in the immature oocyte (gernimal vesicle stage, GV), maturing oocyte (germinal vesicle break-down stage, GVBD), and matured oocyte (metaphase II stage, MII). Also, the NO vesicles were found in the cytosolic compartments of the aged oocyte. The intensity of NO production was increased during in vitro maturation but significantly lower in immature oocytes. In conclusion, our results showed that increasement of NO is an important marker for oocyte maturation also for the aging process.
