스페인 접촉 이전 타완틴수유의 정치경제구조: 호수성과 재분배

초록

15세기 중반 쿠스코를 기반으로 성장한 잉카인들이 주변 지역을 군사적으로 정복하면서 타완틴수유가 성립되었다. “4개 지역”을 의미하는 타완틴수유는 흔히 잉카제국으로 불리며, 1530년경에는 남북으로 4000km에 이르는 영토와 천만 명에 이르는 주민을 통치하기에 이르렀다. 타완틴수유로 복속된 지역들은 잉카인에게 정복당한 후에도 지역의 정치경제 구조를 유지했으며 중앙으로서 쿠스코는 지역적 독자성과 공존하는 집권화를 유지시켰다. 안데스 사회의 호수성은 재분배와 함께 타완틴수유의 기본 원리로 작용했다. 본 논문은 칼 폴라니와 존 무라의 논의에 기대어 호수성과 재분배를 중심으로 스페인 접촉 이전 타완틴수유의 정치경제구조를 분석한다.

Abstract

In the mid-15th century, Tawantinsuyu was founded by the Inca that set its base in Cuzco and militarily conquered the surrounding areas. Tawantinsuyu, known as the land of “four quarters” and commonly referred to as the Inca Empire, ruled over 10 million residents and the land that extended 4,000km to the north and south in around 1530. Areas subjugated to Tawantinsuyu maintained their political and economic structures after being conquered by the Incas. Cuzco the central place kept centralization of power while maintaining regional independence. Reciprocity of the Andean society, along with redistribution, functioned as the basic principle of Tawantinsuyu. This paper analyzes political and economic structures of Tawantinsuyu prior to the Spanish contact while focusing on reciprocity and redistribution based on the discussions of Karl Polanyi and John Murra.
