본 논문의 목적은 플라톤의 『국가』에 나타난 정의에 대한 정의(定義)를 통해 반어적 대화가 어떻게 이루어져 가는지를 살펴보려고 하는 것이다. 구체적으로 케팔로스의 정의개념과 이에 대한 소크라테스의 반어적 대화과정 중에서 해석상의 오류를 고찰하고, 폴레마르코스의 정의개념에 대한 주어와 술어의 관점에서 각각 소크라테스의 반어적 대화를 고찰하며, 트라시마코스의 정의개념에 대한 개념분석의관점과 정의롭게 사는 것이 행복한 삶이 되는 것에 대한 반어적 대화를 고찰하는것이다. 위의 연구목적에 대한 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 케팔로스(Kephalos)의 정의개념에 대한 소크라테스의 반어적 대화중에서콘포드(Cornford)는 ‘멀쩡한 상태’의 사람이 무기를 받았다가 ‘미친 상태’의 사람이되었을 때 무기를 되돌려 주는 것으로 해석하였다. 그러나 조윁(Jowett)은 ‘올바른정신 상태’의 사람이 무기를 받았다가 ‘올바르지 못한 정신 상태’의 사람이 되었을때 무기를 되돌려 주는 것으로 해석하였다. 이 둘의 해석상의 비교를 통해 나타난미친 상태의 오류를 찾을 수 있었다. 둘째, 폴레마르코스의 정의개념에 대해, 주어의 관점에서는 친구와 적의 실제적개념의 논의를 통해 반어적 대화의 흐름을 밝혔으며, 술어의 관점에서는 ‘남에게해를 입히는 것’이 본질적으로 정의 개념에 어긋나는 점을 밝혔다. 셋째, 트라시마코스의 정의개념에 대한 의미를 명료하게 하려고 한 소크라테스의 반어적 대화는 현대의 분석철학의 선구적 역할이었음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고소크라테스는 트라시마코스의 정의개념에 대해 정의가 이익이 되는 것에는 동의하지만, 강자의 이익이 되는 것에는 동의할 수 없음에 대한 반어적 대화를 시도함으로써 트라시마코스의 정의개념의 부당성을 지적하였다. 또한 소크라테스는 인간의 이성의 본질과 기능에서 바라 본, 행복과 정의와 관련성을 통해 반어적 대화를극적으로 보여주었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to search for ironical dialogue through the definition of justice in Plato`s Republic. Here are the reasons why I am considering the study above. First, I`m going to look for the error in translation in ironical dialogue of Socrates and Cephalus about his definition of justice. Second, I will investigate the ironical dialogue of Socrates and the definition of justice by Polemarchus in the view of the subject and predicate. Third, for the definition of justice by Thrasymachus, I want to search for the ironical dialogue and analysis of conception, to specify the meaning and ironical dialogue that "Living for justice is to live a happy life." The conclusions for the above are, First, For Cephalus, I could identify the language of the ironical dialogue comparing the interpretations of Cornford and Jowett. Conford translated it as 'a mad person', where as Jowett translated it as 'not in his right mind'. Second, referring to the definition of justice in the writing by Polemarchus, from the view of the subjects, I have figured out the ironical dialogue through discussing the real ideal between "a friend and an enemy" and for the view of predicates, I found the trends / meanings of ironical dialogue through investigating "What is harmful to others." Third, the ironical dialogue used to specify the meaning and definition of justice by Thrasymachus created the idea of analytical philosophy in Modern Times. Socrates agreed the definition of justice by Thrasymachus which is beneficial in our society, but disagreed with the idea of 'justice for the powerful', pointing out injustice, through ironical dialogue. Socrates also explained the happiness of human beings and justice, by observing the soul and reasons of man, through ironical dialogue.
