Abstract

The Direction and Challenges of Principal Evaluation for School Based Management Recently, the interest in the introduction and evaluation of a teacher evaluation system for the substance of public education and the improvement of education skill is increasing. So far, principals evaluation has been discussed much less than the reformation of the teacher evaluation system. But, the development of a systematic and rational principals evaluation system is essential because innovation of school management is required and for this innovation principals' management skills are emphasized. The purpose of this study is to gain direction and challenges of principals evaluation system with the analysis tools of self-regulation, democracy and specificity from the perspective of school based management. The results of this study are as follows. Principal evaluation for school based management should be set to increase self-regulation, democracy and specificity of schools management. In addition, the following support system is required. First, it should escape from practices of instruction and control. Secondly, it should expand principal`s status as decision makers. Thirdly, it should take advantage of the results of evaluation practically. Finally, it should be linked with supervision, inspection and school evaluation.
