효과적인 영어교육을 위한 초등 영어 교과서 문화 영역 분석 연구

본 연구는 최근 집필된 초등영어 교과서의 문화 영역을 분석해보고 영어교육에 시사점을 주기 위함이다. 이를 위해 최신 검정 교과서 3종을 선정하여 3,4학년 영어 교과서에 있는 문화내용을 소재별, 배경별, 유형별로 각각 분석하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 3종 교과서의 문화 영역은 1/3∼1쪽 분량으로 영어교육에서 문화의 중요도에 비해 교과서 내의 비중은 매우 적었다. 둘째, 교과서 내의 문화 내용을 초등영어 교육과정에서 제시한 19개의 언어 소재로 분석해 본 결과, ‘다양한 문화권에 속한 사람들의 일상생활에 관한 내용’이 50%로 가장 많은 비중을 차지하고 있었고, 이어서 ‘우리 문화와 다른 문화와의 언어적, 문화적 차이에 관한 내용’이 34.3%로 다음을 차지하였다. 셋째, 교과서의 내용을 문화 배경별로 분석해 본 결과, 다른 나라의 문화와 우리나라의 문화를 비교하는 ‘문화 대조적 문화 배경’이 67.1%로 가장 많았다. 넷째, 교과서의 내용을 문화 유형별로 분석해 본 결과, ‘행동문화’ 56.2%, ‘물질문화’ 26.6%, ‘정신문화’ 17.2% 순으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 제언이 함께 이루어졌다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of a program for improving teachers’sense of efficacy based on Bandura’s theory. For this purpose, a program was introduced to teachers working in the elementary schools in J province. 32 elementary school teachers were selected and divided into an experimental group and a control group with 16 subjects assigned to each group. The researcher conducted the program in the experimental group once a week for two hours and 30 minutes over a total of 10 sessions. No treatment was given to the control group. After the program was completed in the experimental group, post-tests were conducted in both groups. Further tests were conducted in both groups after 1 month and its results were utilized as the data for validation. Changes in characteristics in the pre-, post- and further-tests were compared and verified to examine whether the program was effective in improving teachers’sense of efficacy, self-esteem, and reducing job stress in the experimental group by using repeated measures analysis of variance. The results of this study were as follows. First, the program for improving teachers’sense of efficacy based on Bandura's theory was effective to improve teachers’sense of efficacy. There were significant changes in the sub-areas such as self-confidence, self-regulation efficacy, task difficulty preferences, compared to those in the control group. Second, the program was effective in improving self-esteem. Third, the program was also effective in reducing job stress. Fourth, upon conclusion of the program, the degree of lasting effects of the program was verified and showed that its effects lasted after a certain period of time. Implications and limitations of the current study were described.
