Abstract
This study examined trends in question types related to biology pedagogical content and subject matter content in the secondary school biology teacher appointment examination, administered over a 10-year period from 2016 to 2025. The analysis was based on the evaluation areas and evaluation content elements of Biology as presented in the Marked Subjects framework published by the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation (2008). Results indicated that only 49.7% of the total evaluation content elements were actually represented in the exam questions, with no single element exceeding a 50% appearance rate. Within biology education content, questions covered 7 evaluation areas and 18 of the 28 evaluation content elements (64.3%). Within biology subject content, questions covered 47 of 56 evaluation areas and 105 evaluation content elements (47.9%). Several evaluation areas and content elements were not represented at all during the analysis period. These findings suggest a persistent bias in question distribution across evaluation areas and content elements in the secondary biology teacher appointment examination. Therefore, a reorganization or revision of the evaluation areas and content elements may be necessary to ensure a more balanced assessment of teacher candidates.
