생물을 이용하며 환경에 적응하는 인간의 행동양식은 다양한 생활문화를 창조하여 왔으며 그 전파의 통로는 바다였다. 토지와 생물에 대한 인간의 문화적 행위는 지속적인 이용을 통하여 생물과 인간의 공진화(coevolution)에도 지대한 영향을 미치고 있다. 이처럼 생물의 다양성과 인간의 문화적 행동양식은 매우 밀접한 관계가 있다고 볼 수 있으며, 현재 인간과 자연사이의 상호작용에서 탄생하는 생태적 복잡성(ecological complexity)은 결국 환경적응 과정에서 문화의 복잡성(cultural complexity)으로 재생산되어 진화되고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 즉, 인문학은 인간의 생태적 행위를 읽어가는 방법이며 생태학은 그 복잡한 공간속에서 인간과 자연이 적응하는 과정을 해석하는 연구방법이다. 도서에서 다이내믹하게 벌어지고 있는 자연과 인간 활동, 그리고 상호작용은 그 자체로 생태학적 상상력을 충만하게 하는 주제이며, 현재 인류가 직면한 생태학적 위기를 극복하기 위한 주요한 키워드이다. 우리는 현재 지구적 규모의 환경변화라는 거대한 지구 문제에 고민하고 있고, 이러한 현상은 지금까지 과학기술의 발전 속도가 무색할 정도의 빠른 속도로 진행되고 있다. 지구적인 환경변화가 한 가지 요인만으로 발생되는 것이 아닌 만큼 이러한 상황에 대처하는 인문학의 역할에도 다양한 각도의 해결점을 제시할 필요가 있다. 그것은 다학제적인 소통으로 가능하며 총체적인 연구 접근(holistic approach) 속에서 함께 문제 해결에 협조해야 한다는 것이다.
Abstract
Behavioral pattern of human-being that had been adapted in biological and environmental systems had created the diverse culture of livelihood. Maritime and island had been role of important transportation system of human and nature resources. Cultural activity of human-being on landscape and bio-organism had influenced to convolutions between man and nature according to sustainable utilization. Therefore, a relationship between biological diversity and environmental (cultural) adaptation pattern is significantly meaningful and its cause and consequence had been major issue of ecological culture in humanities. Ecological complexity occurring in human and nature systems is reproduced and evolved in the cultural complexity in the sere of environmental adaptation. Humanities are one of methodology to read ecological activity of human use on nature, and ecology is one of methodology to understand changing nature according to the human activity. Including nature itself, human activity of maritime and islands and its relationship is very dynamic issues rising up the ecological imagination in humanities as well as ecologist. They are also emerging issue in accordance with the global environmental changes such as rising sea level and oceanic sea-surface temperature from global to local scale. Many international scholars know that the global human issues are no more major of humanities issue. It means that now we are already in the era of the unity of knowledge "consilience", and we have to cooperate each disciplinary with multi(trans)-disciplinary for holistic approach on global solution.
