이 글은 ‘도서·해양문화’ 연구에 대한 인류학적 관점과 방법을 고찰하기 위해 기존의 관련 연구 성과를 리뷰하기 위해 작성된 것이다. 이를 통해 ‘도서·해양 문화의 인류학’의 개념적 성립 가능성을 타진하고, ‘도서·해양문화’ 연구의 사례로, 소위 ‘동아시아의 도서·해양 문화 연구’를 제시한다. 나아가 ‘도서․해양문화 연구’의 새로운 지평으로서 ‘동아시아의 도서·해양 문화 연구’를 제안하면서, ‘도서·해양문화’ 연구의 필요성을 강조한다. 이 리뷰 논문에서 필자는 동아시아의 도서·해양의 역사와 문화의 역동성을 중시하는 ‘동아시아의 도서·해양 문화 연구’의 사례는 인간과 도서·해양, 사람과 자연, 육지와 도서․해양 사이의 상호작용에 주목하면서 정치적, 경제적, 사회적, 역사적, 환경적, 생태적 조건을 고려한 상태에서 동아시아의 ‘도서·해양 문화’의 특징과 그 의미를 이해하기 위해 인류학적 관점과 방법을 어떻게 활용할 수 있는가의 문제를 재고하기 위한 시도임을 강조한다.
Abstract
This article reviews on the related studies of the interrelationship between maritime culture study and anthropology. For this purpose, this review article examines and investigates the anthropological perspectives and methods in maritime culture studies, especially focused on reviews on the articles and papers which are concerned with the interrelationship between maritime culture studies and anthropology. This article deals with the theme of application of perspectives and methods in anthropology to extend the fields and spheres of maritime culture study. It is for understanding the characteristics and meanings of interrelationship between maritime culture study and anthropology. And in this article, it is emphasized that the anthropological perspectives and methods in maritime culture study should be useful methodological tools for understanding maritime culture in sea world. It is also suggested that a case study on ‘maritime culture study of East Asia’ can be one of the academic attempts to reconstruct the interrelationship between maritime culture study and anthropology for understanding the dynamics of interaction between human and nature in sea world and maritime culture itself.
