한부모 가정 아동‧청소년의 학교생활적응에 관한 시계열적 연구: 양부모 가정 아동‧청소년과의 비교를 중심으로

초록

이 연구는 한부모 가정 아동‧청소년의 학교생활적응 문제를 다룬 것이다. 특별히, 연구는 양부모 가정 아동‧청소년의 학교생활적응 실태와의 비교를 통해, 한부모 가정 아동‧청소년들의 학교생활적응 실태를 파악하는 데 초점을 두었다. 또한 부모의 양육태도가 이 두 가정 아동‧청소년들 간의 학교생활적응 격차를 감소시키는지 확인해 보고자 했다. 이를 위해, 초1, 초4, 중1 패널로 구성된 한국아동‧청소년패널조사(Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, KCYPS)를 활용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 다음의 주요한 결과들이 확인되었다. 첫째, 아동‧청소년은 전반적으로 학년이 증가할수록 학교생활적응에 더 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 아동‧청소년들 간의 학교생활적응 격차는 성장기에 따라 차이가 있었다. 초등학교 저학년 시기에는 격차가 그리 크지 않았지만, 이들이 성장하면서 그 격차는 커졌으며, 고등학교 시기부터는 오히려 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 또한 개인별 시계열적 변화도 개인간 격차가 커지는 시기에 같이 커지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 아마도 사춘기 문제에서 비롯되는 현상인 것으로 추측된다. 셋째, 한부모 가정과 양부모 가정 아동‧청소년들 사이의 학교생활적응 수준에는 유의한 차이가 있었다. 다만, 아동이 초등학교 저학년 시기에는 차이가 미미했으며, 이들이 성장하면서 그 차이가 두드러지는 양상을 보였다. 하지만, 이 역시 고등학교 시기부터는 차이가 확인되지 않았다. 넷째, 부모의 긍정적인 양육태도는 아동‧청소년의 학교생활적응에 도움이 되는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 한부모 가정과 양부모 가정 아동‧청소년들의 학교생활적응 격차를 일부 상쇄시키는 효과도 있었다. 그러나 두 가정의 아동‧청소년들 사이에서 격차가 컸던 시기에는 그 효과가 제한적이어서 격차를 줄이지 못했다. 이러한 연구의 결과들은 비록 동일한 조건이라 하더라도 아동‧청소년의 성장기에 따라 그 영향과 결과가 달라질 수 있음을 보여주는 것이다.

Abstract

This study deals with the school life adjustment in children and youth from single parent families. In particular, this study gave main focus on exploring adaptation level of single parent families’ children and youth by comparing with two-parents families. And we also intended to ascertain whether the difference in school life adjustment level between single and two parent families is reduced by parenting attitudes. For the purpose of the study, it used Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS). And to cap it all, the following results are drawn. First, most of children and youth experienced more difficulty as they grew up. Second, the school life adjustment gap among children and youth was very different depending on their growth phase. Third, there was statistical difference in the level of school life adjustment between single and two parent families. However, this difference varied by their growth phrase, and there was no difference in a first grade panel of middle school. Forth, the parenting attitudes had positive effect on the school life adjustment of children and youth. But, it did not reduce the gap between single and two parent families in 4th grade panel of elementary school, specifically a first grader of middle school. These results mean that the gap between two groups and influence of parenting attitudes on this gap vary by their growth phrase, even though the same conditions.
