Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop the Early Screening Scale for Children At-Risk for Learning Disabilities. This study is composed of two parts. First part is to develop of items the Early Screening Scale for Children At-Risk for Learning Disabilities. Second part is to verify validity and reliability of the scale. The results are as following: First, to certificate content validity, items which had been made based on the previous studies and scales were reviewed to 12 experts, and then 62 items were selected. To evaluate construct validity, Confirmatory factor analysis was performed in a sample of 493 kindergarteners (ages 6-7). The Principle Component Analysis fixed 5 factors and the Oblimin Rotation Method were used. In this analysis, the total explanatory variable of 5 factor was 58.92%, which was relatively high. The 5 factors each were named language, behavior, cognition, math, play. This show that the scale is valid. Second, to evaluate internal consistency reliability, a correlation analysis between a total score and each item score was performed. Coefficients were yielded above .40 in all items. Internal consistency of each factor yielded above .80, which were high. Coefficient for test-retest reliability yielded .91, which were very high. This show that the scale is reliable.
