어머니의 흡연 체험에 대한 현상학적 연구*- 담배 피우는 엄마들의 이야기

초록

본 연구의 목적은 현상학적 방법을 사용하여 그동안 쉽게 노출하지 못하였던 어머니로서 경험하는 흡연체험을 있는 그대로 드러내고, 그 의미를 탐색하는 것이다. 연구자는 2017년 9월부터 2018년 3월까지 4명의 어머니들을 만나 4∼5회의 심층 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 van Manen(1998)이 제시한 신체성, 시간성, 공간성, 관계성이라는 4차원의 근본적 실존체험에 근거하여 분석하였다. 자료 분석을 통해 221개의 의미단위들을 찾아내었고, 이를 근거로 21개의 드러난 주제와 7개의 본질적 주제가 도출되었다. 연구에서 도출된 본질적 주제는 ‘신체성: 담배 피우는 엄마라서 미안해, 괴물이 되고 싶지 않아.’, ‘시간성: 아내는 되는데, 애 엄마는 안 돼!’, ‘공간성: 들키지 않게 몰래 담배 피우기’, ‘관계성: 니가 이거 말고 뭘로 풀겠니? 어떻게 애 엄마가 담배를 피워? 좋은 엄마가 되고 싶은 나쁜 엄마’로 드러났다. 연구자는 본 연구의 결과와 논의에 근거하여 심리상담 관점에서 제언하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the experience of smoking as a mother, which has not been easily exposed, as it is, and to explore its meaning, using a phenomenological method. The researcher met four mothers from September 2017 to March 2018 and collected data through in-depth interviews four to five times. The collected data was analyzed based on the four-dimensional fundamental existential experienced body, experienced time, experienced space, and experienced relationship suggested by van Manen(1998). Through data analysis, 221 semantic units were found, and based on this, 21 revealed themes and 7 essential themes were derived. The essential themes derived from the study are ‘experienced body: I'm sorry I'm a smoking mother, I don't want to be a monster', ‘experienced time: I can be a wife, but not a mother!', ‘experienced space: Smoking secretly without being seen', ‘experienced relationship: What would you solve it with other than this? How dare child's mother smoke? A bad mother who wants to be a good mother’. Based on the results and discussion of this study, the researcher proposed from the perspective of psychological counseling.
