초혼계모의 계자녀 양육 경험에 관한 현상학적 탐구

본 연구의 목적은 초혼계모의 계자녀 양육 경험은 어떠한지 그 경험의 의미가 무엇인지 심층적으로 탐색하는데 있다. 이를 위해 출산 양육의 경험이 없는 초혼계모 6명을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 심층 면담하고 Giorgi(2012)가 제안한 현상학적 탐구 방법에 근거하여 연구를 진행 하였다. 분석 결과, 의미단위 50개, 하위구성요소 19개, 구성요소 6개가 도출 되었으며, 그 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구 참여자들은 한 남자를 사랑하는 마음 하나만 있으면 어떠한 어려움도 다 극복 할 수 있을 것으로 생각하였다. 둘째, 연구 참여자들은 ‘좋은 엄마 콤플렉스’로 인해 잘해야 한다는 압박감은 잘해내지 못한다는 죄책감과 결부되어 계자녀 양육의 어려움을 더 느끼고 있었다.. 셋째, 계자녀 양육으로 인한 심리적 고통으로는 미래에 대한 불안이었으며, 이러한 불안은 신체화 증상으로도 이어지는 경험을 하고 있었다. 넷째, 연구 참여자들은 출산 양육의 경험은 없지만 계자녀를 양육하면서 모성애 경험과 많은 갈등과 어려움을 극복하고자 처절하게 노력하면서 점점 성숙해지는 경험을 하고 있었다. 본 연구 결과는 초혼계모의 계자녀 양육 경험에 대한 이해를 확장하는데 의의가 있으며, 상담 및 교육 현장에서 이들을 위한 프로그램 개발과 상담에 유용한 자료로 활용될 것으로 사료 된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore in depth what the experience of first-marriage stepmothers parenting stepchildren is like and the meaning of that experience. For this purpose, six first-time stepmothers with no experience in childbirth and childrearing were selected as research participants, interviewed in depth, and conducted a study based on the phenomenological inquiry method proposed by Giorgi (2012). As a result of the analysis, 50 meaning units, 19 sub-components, and 6 components were derived, and the contents are as follows. First, the research participants thought that they could overcome any difficulties as long as they had the love for a man. Second, the research participants felt more difficult raising stepchildren because the pressure to do well due to the ‘good mother complex’ was combined with the guilt of not doing well. Third, psychological pain caused by raising stepchildren included anxiety about the future. This anxiety was experienced as leading to somatization symptoms. Fourth, although the research participants had no experience of giving birth and raising children, they experienced maternal love while raising stepchildren and were gradually becoming more mature as they tried desperately to overcome many conflicts and difficulties. The results of this study are significant in expanding the understanding of first-marriage stepmothers’ experiences raising stepchildren, and are expected to be used as useful data for developing programs and counseling for these stepmothers in counseling and education settings.
