Abstract

The term “hidden curriculum” denotes an implicit, unintentional, and non-systematic educational component that operates in parallel with the formal curriculum. It predominantly resides within the affective domain of learners, rendering it potent yet challenging to regulate. The focus of this research centers on a specific dimension of this hidden curriculum: the representation of inclusivity within Korean language learning textbooks. Inclusion, a cornerstone of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) paradigm, assumes significance as it underscores the imperative of acknowledging diversity, ensuring equitable treatment, and fostering an all-encompassing environment for individuals. The domain of Korean language education presents a unique challenge due to the inherent diversity of learners. Consequently, the meticulous curation and development of educational materials become pivotal. Therefore, firstly, this study endeavors to elucidate the intricate interplay between the hidden curriculum and the principles of DEI. Subsequently, it seeks to undertake a comprehensive evaluation of the degree of inclusivity manifest within the textual content of Korean language learning materials. Following this assessment, a detailed investigation will be conducted to discern the influence of this hidden curriculum on learners of the Korean language. Drawing from these empirical insights, the study intends to proffer recommendations for the future selection and development of Korean language textbooks.
