Abstract

This study compares the industrial structure, employment generation, and expenditure patterns of the cruise industry in the United States and Europe to analyze its economic impact. While the United States has a higher number of cruise passengers and an industry structure centered on headquarters operations with spending focused on operating costs, Europe, despite having fewer passengers, possesses a manufacturing-based structure centered on shipbuilding and equipment industries, resulting in relatively higher employment effects. By analyzing these structural differences between regions, the study aims to present policy directions for the development of K orea’s cruise industry.
