Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the dance on cardiopulmonary function and to provide information to the dance training program and to promote health. For this purpose, 11 students at S University who majored in dance and 10 students at K University were selected. A series of comparative studies of the dancers and university students were made through the body composition test, basic physical strength test and cardiopulmonary function test. The following results were obtained: First, weight and body mass of dancers were lower than those of university students, and VO2max of dancers were attentively high by 51.2±4.2㎖/㎏/min. Second, in the basic physical strength test, flexibility, back strength, muscle endurance, agility, counterbalance of dancers were attentively high. In conclusions, dancers have possibility of improving cardiopulmonary function.
