보편적 어펙트 연구 비판과 젠더․어펙트 연구－방법론과 지적 원천에 대한 논쟁을 중심으로－

본 연구는 ‘정동적 전환’ 이후의 정동 연구의 지형도를 고찰한다. ‘정동적 전환 이후’ 어펙트 연구와 소수자 연구 사이의 방법론적 논쟁이 뜨겁다. 특히 어펙트 연구의 지적 원천, 어펙트의 보편성에 대한 비판 등이 페미니즘, 퀴어 연구, 비판적 인종차별주의 연구 등을 통해서 논쟁적으로 제기되고 있다. 어펙트 연구나 이를 비판하고 대안적인 어펙트 연구 방법론을 모색하는 연구 양쪽에서 이런 논쟁은 방법론화를 더욱 촉발하는 역할을 하고 있기도 하다. 정동적 전환 이후 정동 연구 지형도의 가장 큰 특징은 일반 이론과는 다른 방법론화와 체계화이다. 또 소수자 이론과 어펙트 이론 각각에서 활발하게 진행된 방법론 모색이 논쟁과 연결을 통해서 서로 다른 이론을 연결하고 있다. 또 이런 방법론화는 주체성과 정치적인 것을 탐구해온 인문과학과 사회과학(특히 질적 연구)이 데이터 과학, 생명과학을 비롯한 새로운 과학주의의 도래에 맞서 학문 방법의 정치성을 재구축하기 위해 분투하는 과정이기도 하다. 동시에 새로운 연구자들로부터 분출하는 어펙트 연구에 대한 관심, 소수자 연구에 대한 요구에 대응해야 한다는 ‘절박함’과도 무관하지 않다. 본 연구는 어펙트 연구와 소수자 연구 사이의 논쟁과 방법론의 쟁점을 살펴보고 어펙트 이론의 보편화를 비판하는 대안적 어펙트 이론이 제기하는 논점을 정리한다. 또 대안적 어펙트 이론의 쟁점이 그간 젠더․어펙트 연구로 제안해온 본 연구자의 연구 방법과 어떻게 맞닿아 있는지 살펴볼 것이다. 또 대안적 어펙트 연구의 쟁점과 젠더․어펙트 연구 방법론을 토대로 비서구 어펙트 이론 방법론을 정립할 것을 제안하였다.
Abstract
This study examines the topographic map of affect studies after ‘affective turn’. The methodological debate between affect research and feminism is hot after the ‘affective turn’ In particular, the intellectual source of affect studies and criticism of ‘the universality of affect’ have been controversial through feminism, queer research, and critical racism studies. The most important characteristics of the topographic map of affect studies after ‘affective turn’ is methodology and systematization different from general theory. In addition, the search for methodologies that have been actively conducted in each of feminism, queer theory, critical racism studies and affect theory connects different theories through debate and connection. This methodology is also a process in which humanities and social sciences (especially qualitative studies), which have explored subjectivity and politics, struggle to rebuild the politics of academic methods against the advent of new scientism, including data science and life science.
