Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out eating disorder and bone mineral density in ballerinas. The ballerina who works at professional dance company were selected as a target population. Cluster sampling were chosen as sampling method and 50 ballerina were selected by convenience sampling in this study. The eating disorder was conducted by Stein & Jensen(1995)'s Anorexia Bulimia Inventory questionnaire and bone mineral density was measured by Quantitative Ultrasonography, and T-score above than -1.0 was classified as a normal group(group I) and T-score between -1.0 and -2.5 was classified as a osteopenia group(group II). Frequency analysis, factor analysis using by varimax and reliability analysis were performed by PASW 18.0 program and in order to find out the differences among eating disorder factors, normal group and osteopenia group, the analysis of covariance, were performed with adjustment of age, height, weight, body mass index, career, regular or irregular of menstrual period, and age at menarche. The correlation analysis were used for finding of correlation between eating disorder factor and bone mineral density. The significant level was set at p<.05. The study of eating disorder and bone mineral density in ballerinas' results were as followed: First, there were significant differences on bulimia and lethargy between normal and osteopenia group(p<.05). Second, there were correlated significantly between lethargy and bone mineral density through correlation analysis(p<.05). Third, there were no significant differences on psychological anxiety bulimia nervosa and body dissatisfaction, between normal and osteopenia group. In conclusion, ballerina, who had eating disorder behavior and problems on self-control in daily life, may had bad affects to bone mineral density.
