Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of bone mineral density and eating disorder in modern dancers. 147 dancers (50 arts high school students, 50 university students and 47 professional dancers) were participated in this study. The tendency of eating disorder observed by eating disorder inventory-3 questionnaire(Garner, 2004). Bone mineral density was measured by Quantitative Ultrasonography(QUS), and participants were classified as normal (T-score>-0.99) and osteopenia (T-score between -0.1 and -0.25) following WHO guidelines. Statistical analysis in Frequency analysis, Reliability analysis, Factor analysis(varimax), One-way Analysis of Covariance(ANOVA), were performed with adjustment of age, weight, career, regular or irregular of menstrual period, and age at menarche. All statistical procedures were performed by SPSS(Ver 12.0) windows. Maturity among the groups of modern dancers is shown to be significantly different(p<.05). However, body dissatisfaction, emotional control, eating behavior, and bone mineral density are acknowledging no define difference.
