이 글에서는 이런 문제의식에서 출발하여, 알베르티의 『건축론』이 건축을 학문으로 정립하려 한 의식적인 시도라는 사실을 확인하되 과연 어떤 점에서 알베르티 자신이 『건축론』을 학문정립의 기획으로 삼았다고 할 수 있는지 설명하고자 한다. 또한 이 과정에서 『건축론』이 전통 학문, 특히 수사학과 무척 긴밀히 연관되어 있음을 우리는 발견할 수 있는데, 여기서 수사학은 문제설정과 개념고안의 측면에서 기존연구에서 지적하고 밝혀낸 것보다 더 긴밀하고 복잡하게 연관되어 있다.
Abstract
Early Renaissance architect and humanist Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472) endeavored to elevate the position of the art of architecture into the state of liberal arts. In De re aedificatoria Alberti reestablished the principal values of architecture, based on which he could formulate a consistent architectural theory Involving both philosophical and technical questions, his architectural literature uses the terminology borrowed and reinvented from the classical sources including Cicerio's works on rhetoric; the technical terms, such as lineamentum, ornamentum, ratio, and modus, permeate the whole theoretical work.
