What do ESL students want to read and write about? Comparing students' interests with topics found in theme-based ESL reading/writing textbooks

Though providing interesting topics for students who learn English as an L2 is an important aspect of communicative language teaching and learning, little work has been done to study what topics such students are actually interested in. This study surveyed 67 students studying in an intensive English program at a large public university in the United States.
