초록
The main purpose of this study is two-fold: to investigate the relationship between Uzbek EFL learners’ L2 receptive language proficiency and their metaphoric competence and to find out how this relates to students’ level of L2 reading proficiency. With the participation of ninety four Uzbek university students of English majors, a quantitative research method and inferential statistics were used. Results indicated that there is a significant relationship between Uzbek EFL learners’ receptive metaphoric competence and English proficiency. As for the relation of the EFL learners’ proficiency level of English reading to their metaphorical competence, a significant positive correlation was found for the intermediate level of students, but no such correlation was found in the case of students of low and high levels.
