周易이란 책은 the BOOK OF CHANGES로 번역되는 것에서 보듯이 변화에 관한 책이다. 당시 사람들에게 가장 큰 변화는 낮과 밤이 교대로 바뀌고 사계절이 끊임없이 바뀌는 자연의 모습이었다. 이러한 변화 가운데 있는 법칙성과 그 속에서 살아가는 인간의 태도는 풀어야할 당연한 문젯거리였다. 농경문화에서는 규칙적이고 순환적인 사계절의 변화를 통해 시간관념이 발달하게 되고, 유목문화에서는 광활한 대지에 대한 경험을 통해 공간적인 관념이 발달하게 되는데, 이 두 관념은 뒤에 형성된 주역에 직접적인 영향을 주었다. 그래서 주역은 자연과 그 속의 인간을 시간과 공간의 두 축을 가지고 이해하고 설명한다. 여기서의 시간과 공간은 직선적이며 장소적인 의미만을 뜻하지 않는다. 즉 시간은 역사상의 어떤 날을 의미하는 것이 아니라 ‘時機’ 곧 어떠어떠한 ‘때’를 의미하는 관념이며, 공간은 ‘位’로 표현하여 장소적 의미와 함께 인간에게 적용시켜 신분의 의미까지도 포함하는 관념이 되었다. 결국 주역에서 시간의 의미는 우리에게 ‘이때’의 의미와 ‘이때에 행할 바’를 말하고, 공간의 의미는 ‘이 장소’ 즉 이러한 ‘위치’와 이 ‘위치에서 행할 바’를 말해주고 있다. 달리 표현하여 ‘時-位’는 ‘順應’의 삶을 의미한다. 현대인의 삶은 과거와 달리 밤낮의 구분이 없고 특히 사계절의 변화에 직접적인 영향도 적다. 뿐만 아니라 너무도 빨리 변해가는 세상에서 자신이 어디에 있는지 모를 때가 많다. 시대에 대한 몰이해와 정체성의 상실은 방향을 잃은 항해와 같은 불안을 조성한다. 이러한 세대에 주역은 하나의 가능성을 말한다. 자연의 법칙에 순응하는 삶이다. 자연의 법칙은 그 언제인가 시작에서부터 지금껏 한 치의 오차도 없이 순환하고 있으며 그러한 변화는 상생과 발전이라는 결과를 가져왔다. 그래서 인류가 자연과 더불어 살아가는 길을 찾을 때 불안은 해소 될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
The Book named Chu-Yeok is a book about variations as it is translated into "the Book of Change." To people at that time, the extreme alteration is a state of nature which turns from day to night in rotation and turns into four seasons constantly. The law of nature and a human attitude to be survived in these change are problems to be solved. In agrarian society, concepts of time has been developed by the turning of the season which is regular and circular. In the other hands nomadic society has a notion of space which is advanced by an experience of a vast plain. Those two thoughts gave a direct influence to Chu-Yeok. So Chu- Yeok comprehends and explains a nature and human in it with two axes of time and space. At this point, time and space does not have only a straight and locational meaning. That is, time is not a certain day in history but 'the opportune moment(時機)', namely the concepts meaning an occasion how it would be. Space which is expressed as 'Wi(位)' became an ideal of a positional meaning including a status when it is applied to human. Finally the meaning of time tells us the meaning of 'this moment' and 'What should we do in this occasion.' And the meaning of space presents 'this place', namely 'position how it be' and 'What to do in this position.' In other words, 'time-space' points out a living for accordance(順應). A living today is differ from past, there is no order between day and night, especially turning seasons are less direct influent as well as it is common that people does not know where himself or herself are in a too rapid changing world. Lack of understanding and loss of identity about the age create an uneasiness like a navigation loosing its direction. In an aspect of life, Chu-Yeok proposes one of possibilities. That is a life according to the law of nature. The law of nature circulate without an accidental error since when it begins. Then the alteration brought the result of living together and growth. So that, the anxiety will be dissolved when human beings seek after the way to live together.
