초록

본 논고는 마르코 복음 내에서 여전히 치열한 논쟁의 대상이 되고 있는마르 4,10-12 본문의 의미와 설화적 역할에 대하여 고찰한다. 이 본문에서는하느님 나라의 신비가 주어진 ‘예수님 주위의 사람들’과 모든 것이 그저 비유로만 다가가는 ‘저 바깥 사람들’이 대조를 이루는 가운데(11절), 특히 후자의 집단이 지닌 특성이 12절의 내용으로 구체화된다. 이사 6,9-10의 내용을인용하는 12절은 맨 앞에 위치하는 접속사 ἵνα의 역할에 따라 다양한 해석이가능해진다. 그것의 통상적인 ‘목적’의 의미에 의문을 제기하는 학자들은, ‘원인절’ 또는 ‘결과절’을 이끄는 접속사로 간주하기도 하고, 그것을 관계 대명사처럼 여기거나, 선행하는 내용에 대한 구체적인 설명을 도입하는 역할, 또는 구약의 실현 인용구를 이끄는 역할을 한다고 주장하기도 한다. 해당 본문의 주석을 시도하는 논고의 둘째 장은 본문의 구성 요소들이 이루는 유기적 관계를 바탕으로, 12절의 ἵνα를 통상적인 ‘목적’ 접속사로 간주하고, 그러한 목적절의 의미가 하느님의 섭리 안에서 실현되는 신비로운 구원 계획과밀접한 연관이 있음을 밝힌다. 이어지는 셋째 장은 문맥이 본문의 이해에 미치는 역할을 조명한다. 먼저 본문을 둘러싸고 있는 씨 뿌리는 사람의 비유와(4,1-9) 해설 단락이(4,13-20), ‘예수님 주위 사람들’과 ‘바깥 사람들’ 집단에대한 이해의 폭을 확장하고, 그 대상을 구체화하고 있음을 확인한다. 그리고이후 전개되는 이야기 안에서 갈수록 심해지는 양상을 보이는 제자들의 몰이해 현상을 조명하며, ‘예수님 주위의 제자들’에게서 드러나는 ‘바깥 사람들’의 완고한 특성이 독자들에게 경각심을 불러일으키는 설화적 책략으로작용한다는 사실을 확인한다.

Abstract

This paper examines the meaning and narrative role of Mark 4,10-12, a passage that is still fiercely debated. ‘People around Jesus,’ who have been granted the mystery of the kingdom of God are contrasted with ‘those on the outside,’ who only hear parables(verse 11), while the characteristics of the latter group are further explained in verse 12. Verse 12, which makes reference to Isa 6,9-10, can be interpreted in different ways depending on how one understands the conjunction ἵνα located at the beginning. Scholars who question the usual meaning of ‘objective,’ regard it as a conjunction that accompanies a ‘causal clause’ or ‘consequence clause,’ or treat it as a relative pronoun. They also argue that it functions as a specific explanation of the preceding content or is a quote on the realization of the Old Testament. The second section of the paper comments on the passage by treating ἵνα as a usual ‘objective’ conjunction based on the organic relationship of the components of the text; the meaning of the objective clause is closely linked with the mysterious plan of salvation realized in the providence of God. The third section sheds light on how the context influences the interpretation of the text, by demonstrating that the Parable of the Sower (4,1-9) and its explanation (4,13-20) expands our understanding the ‘people around Jesus’ and ‘those on the outside,’ as well as clarifying the subject. It also focuses on the growing incomprehension on the part of the disciples in the following passage to explain that the stubborn nature of the ‘people on the outside’ in the ‘those around Jesus’ is a narrative ploy to raise the alarm of the readers.
