Abstract
This thesis explores exorcism events in the early church, focusing on the Gerasene Demoniac and the unnamed exorcist in the Gospel of Mark to trace the historical trajectory of the Markan community's formation. The study examines the Gerasene Demoniac passage, which provides detailed accounts of Jesus' exorcism and the subsequent activities of the healed Gerasene man. The Gerasene man is seen as a seed of God's kingdom left by Jesus, and his successful activities in the Decapolis demonstrate the miraculous growth of God's kingdom. Although mentioned briefly in John's statement, the unnamed exorcist shows that exorcism was not exclusive to the twelve disciples. Jesus acknowledges his exorcism, indicating that the unnamed exorcist received the tradition about Jesus. The proclamation initiated by Jesus and carried on by the Gerasene man extends to the unnamed exorcist, forming a lineage of tradition separate from the activities of the twelve disciples. The Markan community reflects this historical trajectory in the Gospel of Mark.
