This study focuses on Dance for PD® by Mark Morris Dance Group, a dance program for people with Parkinson’s disease, to examine how the program upholds the aesthetic values of dance art while negotiating the physical aspects of dance activities for the people with Parkinson's. Through the analysis of its artistic approaches and educational strategies, this research reveals that Dance for PD® inherits the artistic legacies and philosophy of Mark Morris Dance Group. Also, it illustrates how the program invites teaching artists and the participants to intervene in their own ideas and include their artistic decisions as an art-making process. The achievement of Dance for PD® demonstrates that the aesthetic values of dance is valid for all human being in the form of art.
Abstract
