Abstract

Electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis plays a crucial role in the early detection of cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we propose a novel CNN-based classification model that incorporates Gradient Weighted Visibility Graph (GWVG) transformation and a Weighted Cross-Entropy Loss Function (WCELF) to address class imbalance issues. Raw ECG signals were preprocessed through R-peak detection and windowing, followed by Z-score normalization, and then converted into 2D GWVG images for CNN classification. Experimental results using the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database demonstrated that the proposed model achieved high accuracy across most arrhythmia categories, with particularly improved performance in minority classes such as R and V beats. The weighted loss function effectively reduced misclassification errors caused by data imbalance, while GWVG transformation captured morphological variations of ECG signals. Overall, the proposed approach achieved over 99% classification accuracy.
