Abstract

The issue of ‘Sustainable Development’ which is related to climate-ecological changes has been receiving increasing attention along with AI(Artificial Intelligence), motivating changes in elementary education. In this study, the Samsung Junior SW Academy program, which combines AI and ESD(Education for Sustainable Development), was applied to 5th grade elementary students for 6 weeks. Then, collected data was analyzed to identify the impact of this education on students' computational thinking, character-competence, and understanding-interest-practice. As a result of the study, students showed significant improvement in the areas of 'analysis', 'design', and 'reasoning' in the computational thinking. In relation to sustainable development, there was significant improvement in the 'social and moral compassion' area in the personality, the 'critical thinking and problem-solving ability' area in the competency, and the level of 'understanding-interest' excluding practice. The results of this study can be used to suggest ways to improve converging AI and ESD in the future.
