Abstract
This study examined the applicability of wood materials in Publicly Open Private Spaces (POPS) through a comparative analysis of domestic and international cases of woodbased rest areas. The results indicate that wood can be effectively used as a structural, finishing, and furniture material, improving constructability and spatial efficiency within limited urban environments. Prefabrication and modular construction methods contribute to shorter construction periods, reduced on-site waste, and lower carbon emissions. Moreover, wood provides psychological comfort and visual warmth to users, enhancing the quality of urban public spaces. Utilizing locally sourced wood also reduces transportation-related carbon emissions and supports local economies. The application of wood in POPS demonstrates potential as a sustainable architectural strategy aligned with ESG management and carbon neutrality goals. The findings of this study may serve as foundational data for future design practices and policy development promoting the expanded use of wood in urban architecture.
