Abstract

This study analyzed public perceptions and the necessity of wooden urban streets from the perspectives of carbon neutrality and urban regeneration. Survey results indicated that both citizens and store operators held positive attitudes toward the use of wood in urban streets, expecting improvements in environmental friendliness and comfort. Wood was perceived as a warm and natural material, although concerns remained regarding its cost and durability. Key factors to consider in wooden urban streets projects include safety, convenience, and environmental performance, with more than half of respondents willing to pay up to 20% additional costs. Applying wood to urban elements such as poles and signboards, along with introducing a carbon storage labeling system, can enhance public awareness of wood’s environmental value. Overall, wooden urban streets are suggested as an effective strategy for carbon-reducing urban regeneration, contributing to improved environmental quality and local vitality.
