목회상담의 위기적 상황과 정신치료 -현대 심층심리학적 정신치료이론과의 연관성을 중심으로-
The Critical Situation of Pastoral Counseling and the Psychotherapy

Pastoral counseling is, now, in the critical situation in the modern church because of the issues of identity and effectiveness. In fact, many contemporaries are skeptical about the pastoral counseling based on traditional pastoral care, and they go to the secular clinic to consult their mental problems as the skill of psychotherapy is well developed in these days. Also the identity of pastoral counseling based on depth psychology is suspicious as it does not consider the spiritual dimension of human being. However, modern psychotherapy is derived from the cure of soul(cura animarum) of christian church, so depth psychology can interpret and explain deep inner trouble of modern human being with modern scientific language. Therefore, pastoral counseling can cooperate with depth psychology without demolishing its identity in order to overcome the current critical situation. In that sense, C.G. Jung, V. Frankl, and some post-freudian psychotherapists can help us a lot. As they are the psychotherapists based on depth psychology, and they not only know that human being is multidimensional, but also they emphasize the importance of the transcendent dimension for human being. Therefore, the pastoral counselor should interpret and explain the symbolic meaning which is contained in the complaints of the clients of pastoral counseling as some human being can speak 2-3 languages at the same time.
