루터의 두 왕국론은 신앙과 현실로 대표되는 그리스도인의 두 삶의 영역을 암시한다. 두 왕국의 문제는 교회와 사회의 관계규정의 문제이다. 그것은 교회의 사회적 사명과 윤리적 기능을 함축하고 있다. 교회와 사회의 관계는 창조질서가 하나님의 주권 아래서 움직인다는 신학적 배경을 전제로 한다. 현재 안에서 지속되는 창조사역은 하나님의 왕국을 형성하며, 하나님의 보존은총 속에서 종말까지 나아가는 역사의 과정은 세상왕국을 형성한다. 두 왕국의 존재방식은 하나님의 칭의의 은총 아래서 용서받은 죄인의 모습으로 살아가는 그리스도인의 이중적 실존방식에 상응한다. 율법의 하나님과 복음의 하나님이 구분되지 않는 것처럼, 두 왕국은 하나님에게 속해있다. 루터의 두 왕국론은 이중적 구조를 가지고 있지만 이원론적 사고를 지향하는 것은 아니다. 하나님의 섭리가 두 왕국으로 구분되는 것처럼 보이는 이유는 무엇보다 세상이 죄에 감염되었으며, 하나님은 이 세상에서 창조주로서 활동한다는 사실에 있다. 그러므로 이 세상은 타락과 새 창조, 죄와 은총이 공존하는 이중적 질서를 형성한다. 현실은 옛 에온과 새 에온이 공존하는 시간적 교차점이다. 두 왕국이 현실 안에서 만나는 것과 마찬가지로, 이 현실은 두 시간 사이의 긴장영역으로 나타난다. 교회의 과제는 사회 현실 속에서 빛과 소금이 되는 것 뿐 아니라 그 현실을 복음에 기초하여 해석하는 것이다. 이러한 의미에서 루터의 두 왕국론에 대한 연구는 그리스도인의 자의식 안에서 일어나는 신앙과 현실, 교회와 사회의 분열을 극복하는 이론적 근거가 될 수 있다. 그것은 구체적이며 타당한 윤리적 결단의 길보다는, 메타윤리적 의미에서 그러한 결단이 일어나는 윤리적 상황에 대한 기독교적 이해의 길을 강조한다.
Abstract
Luther's theory of two kingdoms suggests two areas of christian life, which is represented as faith and reality. The problem of the two kingdoms is the subject of the relationship between church and society. It implies the social mission and ethical function of the church. The relationship between church and society presupposes the theological background that the order of creation moves under the sovereignty of God. The creative ministry that continues in the present constructs the kingdom of God, and the process of history that proceeds from God's preservative grace to eschaton constitutes the kingdom of the world. The existential way of two kingdoms corresponds to the dual existence of christian, who is living as a forgiven sinner under the grace of God's justification. Two kingdoms belong to God, just as there is no distinction between God of Law and God. Even though Luther's theory of two kingdoms have a dual structure, they are not directed at dualistic thinking. The reason why God's providence appears to be divided into two kingdoms, lies first of all in the fact that the world is infected with sin, and God acts as a Creator in this world. Therefore, this world forms a dual order in which corruption and new creation, sin and grace coexist. The reality is the temporal intersecting point where the old aeon and the new aeon coexist. Just as the two kingdoms come across in the reality, this reality appears as a area of tension between two times. The task of church is not only to become light and salt in the social reality, but also to interpret this reality according to the gospel. In this sense, a study on Luther's theory of two kingdoms can be a theoretical basis for overcoming the divisions between faith and reality, and between church and society, which occur in the self-consciousness of christian. It stress not so much on the concrete and reasonable way to ethical decision, as in a meta-ethical sense on the way for Christian understanding of the ethical situation in which such a decision takes place.
