이 연구의 목적은 김홍식(金弘植) 목사의 저작 “心靈의 飢渴”(1922)을 통해 ‘기갈’과 ‘공소’(空所)에 관한 그의 담론을 고찰하려는 데 있다. 그는 시편 107편 9절을 본문 말씀으로 선정하여 이 글을 저술했다. “그가 사모하는 영혼에게 만족을 주시며 주린 영혼에게 좋은 것으로 채워주심이로다.” 김홍식이 밝힌 기갈과 공소에 관한 중요한 관점은 주로 그의 희귀본 옥고 “心靈의 飢渴”에서 고찰할 수 있고, 이 글은 1922년에 출간된 『宗敎界諸名士講演集』에 수록되어 있다. 이 책은 당시 기독교계의 명성 있는 목사들과 교사들의 진귀한 설교문들을 엮은 집록 양식의 저서이다. 본 논문 제2장에서는 ‘기갈과 공소’와의 상호관계성, ‘기갈과 공소’ 사이의 견고한 유기적 인과성, 인격체와 비인격체 간 ‘기갈과 공소’의 의미심장한 차이점 등이 무엇인지에 대해서 살펴보았다. 제3장에서는 ‘기갈과 공소’의 논리적 속성과 유기적 상관성에 근거하여 가장 유용한 성경 구절들(시 107:9; 42:1-2; 사 55:1; 요 7:37-38), 이천년에 걸쳐 기독교가 성장할 수 있었던 위대한 역동적 동인들, 기독교의 복음, 영적인 기갈과 공소를 충족시키기 위해 그리스도인들이 감당해야 할 복음전파의 사명 등에 대해서 다루었다. 김홍식 목사가 남긴 의미심장한 공헌들에 비추어, 본 연구자는 향후 그와 관련된 담론이 더욱 확장됨으로써 ‘그의 신앙관’, ‘삼일독립운동’, ‘목회사역’, ‘일제 신사참배 저항운동 등 다양한 연구 주제들로 외연 되기를 기대한다.
Abstract
The object of this research is to show pastor Hong-Sik Kim’s discourses on ‘starvation’ and ‘desire’ of Christians in his “Starvation of Spirit”(1922). This text is based on Psalm 107:9. “For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” Kim’s important view of starvation and desire is based basically on his rare work “Starvation of Spirit” published in Jonggyogyeoi Jemyeongsa Gangyeonjip published in 1922. This book is the valuable sermon collection by prestigious pastors and teachers of Christian group at that time. In chapter 2 of this research, I attempted to study the discourses on the correlation of ‘starvation and desire’, a solid organic causal link between ‘starvation and desire’, the significant difference of ‘starvation and desire’ between human being and non-human being, and so on. In chapter 3, On the grounds of logical attributes and the organic correlation of ‘starvation and desire’, I treated with the most useful bible passages(Psalm 107:9; 42:1-2; Isaiah 55:1; John 7:37-38), the great dynamic forces of the growth of Christianity for two thousand years, Christian Gospel, the evangelistic vocation of Christians for the satisfaction of spiritual ‘starvation and desire’. In light of pastor Hong-Sik Kim’s significant contributions, I suggest future extensions of this study into his other discourses such as ‘his view of faith’, ‘Samil Independence Movement’, ‘pastoral ministry’, ‘resistance movement against Japanese Shinto Shrine Worship’, and so on.
