‘개혁된 교회’의 성찬 이해와 그 실행에 대한 연구 : 대한예수교 장로회(통합) 소속 교회를 중심으로

종교개혁자의 주된 관심사 중의 하나는 바른 예배를 위한 개혁이었다. 그것은 예배 가운데서 하나님의 말씀의 선포인 설교의 회복뿐만 아니라 성찬의 바른 이해와 실행을 그 목표로 했다. 개혁의 봉화가 높이 타오른 이래, 여러 지역으로 들불처럼 번져나간 개혁 운동은 이전과는 다른 새로운 교회를 태동시켰다. 그렇게 탄생한 ‘개혁된 교회’(reformed church)는 지금 어떻게 그 전통을 이어가고 있는가? 그 교회는 예배에 있어서 설교의 중요성을 잘 견지하고 있다면 성찬 실행이라는 관점에서 보면 그렇게 긍정적이지 못한 것이 일반적 평가이다. 한국의 개혁교회 역시 설교 중심의 예배로 정착되었고 성찬 실행에는 처음 시작 부분에서 많이 벗어나 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본고는 ‘개혁된 교회’의 전통 가운데 서 있는 교회가 500년의 역사를 지나가면서 오늘 어떻게 성찬을 이해하고 실행하는지 살펴보는데 그 주안점이 있다. 바른 성찬 실행을 위해 노력한다는 것은 그 정신을 새롭게 하는 것이며 종교개혁 정신을 이어가는 것이라는 점에서 중요하다. 그 뿌리와 개혁의 내용을 살펴보기 위해 종교개혁 전후를 중심으로 한 성찬 신학 형성과 실행에 대해 문헌 중심으로 살펴보고, 오늘의 실행을 살펴보기 위해 설문 조사와 현장관찰조사방법을 사용하였다. 특별히 본 연구는 대한예수교 장로회(통합)에 속한 교회의 성찬 실행을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 조사 결과 변질 된 예배와 신앙전통을 바로 세우려는 예배 개혁 정신을 따라 시작되었지만 오늘의 개혁된 교회의 예배는 설교가 중심을 이루고 있는 예배로 굳어졌고, 또 다른 축인 성찬예전에는 여러 문제점을 안고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 성찬은 교회에 주신 “그리스도와의 연합을 통한 영적 자양분”이라고 한 개혁자의 주장을 고려할 때, 개혁된 교회의 개혁은 계속되어야 할 당위성 앞에 서 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
The main concern of the Reformation was to reform Christian worship. It concentrated on the recovery of preaching as proclamation of God’s word and right understanding and practice of the Eucharist following the Bible. It quickened an entirely new church, the reformed church. How does the church, then, follows and practices the tradition currently? Most churches are doing well in communicating the Word of God in worship, however, the Lord’s Supper has not been practiced as the Word. In the Reformed tradition, the Supper is “a meal that provides spiritual nourishment.” Eating the body and drinking the blood of Christ in the sacrament is united with Christ and strengthened spiritually. Also they are a way to commemorate and proclaim the death and resurrection of Christ with gratitude and praise. This article focused on surveying how the church on the reformed tradition in Korea is practicing the Eucharist. Mainly, I will use methodologies of survey and field research about understanding and practice of the Eucharist on Presbyterian Church of Korea(PCK). As John Calvin insisted that the Eucharist is the spiritual food for the church that the Christ provides through communion with Him, this research found that the reformed church in Korea has followed traditions of the Puritan and Frontier worship rather than the Reformers and is in necessity to continue reforming in practice of the Eucharist.
