평양부흥운동의 집합행동으로서의 상징성 연구

1907년 평양에서 있었던 부흥운동에 대한 평가는 동전의 양면과 같이 부정적 또는 긍정적으로 날카롭게 대치되어 있다. 이 논문을 집필하는 목적은 종래의 이러한 연구 결과들 중 어느 한편에 동의하기 위한 것이 아니라 기독교민족운동 입장에서 이 운동이 집합행동으로서 어떠한 상징성을 부여할 수 있는지를 살피려는 데 있다. 러일 전쟁의 결과 일본의 보호국으로 전락한 조선은 모든 정치적인 집회 결사의 자유가 통제된 채 갖가지 일제의 식민정책에 휘둘려 세금으로 착취당하고, 화폐를 잃고, 땅을 빼앗기고, 삶의 터전을 잃어버려 고향을 등져야 하는 등 말할 수 없는 고초를 당하게 되었다. 이럴 때 유일한 모임의 장소였던 교회는 조선인민과 민족주의자들의 집합의 장소가 되어 조선 민족 최대의 조직공동체로 떠올라 “조선 독립의 근기와 모태”가 되었다. 평양부흥회는 집합행동으로서의 기독교 공동체의 역동적 상징성을 보여주는 모임이었다. 회개를 통해 갈등과 반목을 해결하여 선교사와 조선인이 하나 되었고, 교파와 교단이 하나 되어 전국에 걸친 기독교 공동체 중심의 완전한 조직망을 구성했을 뿐만 아니라 미래를 기대하며 역동적인 힘을 결집하였다. 이러한 평양부흥운동의 집합행동의 역동적인 결집성이 나타난 것이 1919년 3ㆍ1운동에서였다. 조선과 해외의 기독교민족주의자들을 연대하는 조선 기독교 공동체의 역동적인 힘은 그 조직망을 활용해 일체의 정치성을 띤 집회결사를 허용하지 않았던 일제의 감시를 뚫고 그 운동을 가능하게 하였다.
Abstract
Pyong-yang had the revival in 1907 that was negatively criticised and positively valued like coin that has both sides. The purpose of this study is to make researches could give any symbolsm with a movement as a collective behavior in christian national movement. The resulting in the Russo-Japanese war, Joseon had been controlled by the Japanese who gave brutally persecuting to Joseon in their colonialism as they were forced to pay a large amount of taxes, and lost their own currency and land. Therefore, they had to leave from their hometown because of losing lives that were took away. Fortunately for them, They had the only place to meet which was the church. It had been a place of assembly for the Joseon people and nationalist. Also there was put to "root and source of the independence of Joseon". At last, it became the greatest systemic community. The revival service in Pyong-yang was a meeting that showed a dynamic symbolism of community of christianity as a collective behavior. The missionary of christianity and Joseon people became one, all of denominations too, through repentance that brought to solve complications and antagonism. They not only completely organized the network of community of christianity but also united their dynamic force from all over the country. This Pyong-yang revival movement of collective behavior of dynamic force that was gathered from all of area was appeared at 3ㆍ1 Movement in 1919. In conclusion, although the rule of Japanese imperialism did not recognize them to have a political meeting of association, the dynamic strength of community of Joseon christianity that connected the christian nationalists in Joseon and overseas made the movement possible.
