크리소스톰의 설교 분석을 통한 설교 적용 패러다임에 관한 연구

초록

최근 한국 교회 설교자들의 가장 큰 관심사로 대두되고 있는 설교의 적용은 한마디로 저자 당시의 청중지평과 설교자의 청중의 지평 사이에 있는 해석학적 간격(hermeneutical gap)을 이어주는 다리 놓기(bridge-building)라고 할 수 있다. 이런 차원에서 존 크리소스톰(John Chrysostom)은 당시의 필요와 그의 청중들이 가지고 있었던 다양한 관심사와 적용을 절묘하게 연결시키는 브릿지빌더(bridge-builder)로서 개인과 교회와 사회를 변혁시키기 위한 탁월한 모델이다. 과연 한국교회 설교자들의 적용 회복을 위해 주목해야 할 크리소스톰의 설교 적용 패러다임의 핵심적인 원리와 특징은 무엇인가? 이러한 질문에 대한 답을 얻기 위해서는 크리소스톰의 원문 설교에 대한 분석을 토대로 적용 패러다임에 대한 연구와 이를 통한 반성과 대안이 한국교회에 다시 요청되는 시점이다. 첫째, 크리소스톰이 추구한 설교 적용의 궁극적인 푯대는 그리스도를 닮은 크리스천의 삶으로 변혁되어 가는 것이다. 크리소스톰의 변혁적인 메시지는 율법과 은혜라는 두 렌즈를 통과해서 도출된 적용의 불꽃에 의해 타올랐다. 둘째, 어떤 시대에도 적용될 수 있는 보편적인 신학적 원리에 기초한 윤리적 적용 패러다임은 크리소스톰 설교의 특징이다. 그는 탁월한 강해설교자일 뿐만 아니라, 성경 당시의 저자가 의도한 적용을 현대 청중에게 직접적 혹은 간접적으로 전이(transfer)시키는 과정 즉 원리화 다리(principalizing bridge) 의 결정적 기준(criteria)라고 할 수 있는 보편적인 신학적 원리(신론, 인죄론, 기독론, 구원론, 종말론 등)에 기초한 윤리적 적용을 회복하기 위한 좋은 모델이다. 셋째, 크리소스톰의 적용은 부와 가난, 구제에 대한 성경적인 원리와 적용을 강조한다. 넷째, 크리소스톰 설교의 적용은 교회적 공동체로서 가정이라는 주제에 대한 강조가 두드러진 특징이다. 주목할 점은 크리소스톰의 교회적 공동체로서의 가정을 향한 적용은 신학적인 보편원리에 기초하고 있다는 것이다. 다섯째, 크리소스톰의 설교분석을 통해 볼 때 그의 적용은 수사학적인 분석과 적응이 탁월했으며, 당시 평범한 안디옥과 콘스탄티노플의 청중의 필요에 민감함과 연결된 탁월한 설교자 였으며, 다양하고 폭 넓은 적실성 범주를 추구했다는 것을 알 수 있다. 크리소스톰은 본문과 저자가 의도한 적용과 보편적 원리를 기초로 개인적, 가정적, 공동체적, 문화적, 경제적, 정치적, 종교적/철학적 영역을 향한 다차원적 적실성 범주의 모델을 보여준다. 필자는 보다 건설적인 설교학적 반성과 대안을 마련하기 위해 크리소스톰의 설교 적용 원리에 근거해 한국교회 설교자들을 위한 다섯 가지 제언으로 결론을 대신 하고자 한다.

Abstract

Based on analysis of John Chrysostom’s sermons, this study is to explore Chrysostom’s five striking features of his application paradigm. For the purpose of suggesting a life-transforming application-focused preaching model in the context of Korean church, this paper is to analyze five principles of Chrysostom’s application paradigm. First, Chrysostom’s application in homiles aims at the listeners’ transformed lives. Second, a doctrine-based ethical application paradigm is a trait in Chrysostom’s preaching. Chrysostom is not only an outstanding expositor, but he is also a good model for a doctrine-based ethical application. Third, Chrysostom’s application has a tendency to emphasize the themes of wealth and poverty. Fourth, Chrysostom’s application paradigm tends to underline the theme of family as ecclesial community. Chrysostom’s ecclesial vision of the Christian family and household rarely has been discussed. Analysis of Chrysostom’s application indicates that his sermons seek a wide relevance category. Chrysostom’s preaching is both text-based and audience-focused. Korean preachers need to consider and contextualize Chrysostom’s application paradigm to transform their congregation and Korean society.
