종교중독에서 심리적인 결핍에 대한 목회상담적 대응 - 위니캇(D. W. Winnicott)의 중간대상을 중심으로 -

본 연구는 종교중독자에게서 나타나는 심리적인 결핍을 목회상담학적으로 그 해결을 시도한다. 중독은 현대사회에서 그다지 낯설지 않은 단어가 되었다. 그것은 중독이 그만큼 우리 사회에 확산되었음을 시사한다. 중독으로 인하여 현대인들의 정신이 황폐해지며, 이로 인해 가정과 사회는 물론 개인에게도 심각한 병리현상을 초래하게 되었다. 이런 중독은 이제 한 가지 중독에만 제한되는 것이 아니라 다발적인 중독증상을 나타내는데, 이는 중독이 현대 문화의 시대적인 흐름에 자리를 잡아가는 하나의 현상이 되었기 때문이다. 일반적으로 중독은 약물중독에만 국한된 병리적인 현상으로 이해되어왔지만, 현재는 더 넓은 의미로 사용되고 있으며, 중독의 범위도 점점 더 다양해지고 있는 실정이다. 여기에는 알코올중독을 비롯한 도박중독, 성(性)중독, 인터넷중독, 일중독 등 몇 가지만 들어도 익히 알 수 있음이 이를 뒷받침한다고 볼 수 있다. 이런 시각에서 종교중독으로 인해 파생되는 신앙의 문제는 종교중독자들에게만이 아니라 신앙인 모두에게도 해당되는 측면이 있다. 신앙인에게는 진정한 신앙과는 멀어져 자칫하면 종교중독으로 이행될 수 있는 위험성이 있다. 다만 이러한 종교중독을 의식하지 못하고 있는 사람, 의식하기는 하지만 부정하는 사람이 있을 뿐이다. 본 연구는 이런 점에 주목하여 종교중독자에게서 나타나는 심리적인 결핍에 대하여 고찰하고, 그 해소의 방법을 강구한다. 이때 도널드 위니캇(D. W. Winnicot)의 중간대상의 이론에 기대어 목회상담적인 시각에서 그 대안을 제시한다.
Abstract
This study tries to resolve psychological deficiency found in religious addicts through pastoral counseling. Addiction is not an unfamiliar word any more. This means that addiction is so widespread in our society. Due to addiction, people in modern society are mentally devastated, which brings about severe pathological phenomena in an individual as well as in a family and society. So addiction is no more limited to a specific symptom but refers to multiple symptoms of addiction, which means that addiction has become common in modern culture. Generally, the term, “addiction” was considered as a pathological phenomenon limited only to drug addiction but currently, it is used in a broader sense, including various kinds of addictions. Addictions to gambling, sex, internet, and work, not to mention alcoholism, are some of the good examples to show this trend. In this context, it could be said that all matters of faith, which stem from religious addiction, not only pertain to religious addicts but to all believers. This is because any believers have the possibility to be religious addicts, slipping away from their sincere faith. In most cases, people don’t realize that they are one of the religious addicts or they just deny the fact that they are one of them. This study examines psychological deficiency in religious addicts and studies a way to resolve it. Furthermore, it proposes an alternative from the perspective of pastoral counseling, based on D. W. Winnicot’s ‘Transitional Object Theory.’
